When Patients Should Be Screened
Screening recommendations below reflect Screening for Life guidelines dated July 2021.
Women 18 and Older
Screening or vaccine: Mammogram
How often: Annually
Women 40 and Older
Screening or vaccine: Mammogram
How often: Annually
Women 21 and Older
Screening or vaccine: Pelvic exam
How often: Annually
Women 21 to 29
Screening or vaccine: Pap test
How often: Every 3 years
Women 30 to 65
Screening or vaccine: Pap test
How often: Every 3 years or every 5 years with HPV co-testing
1. Talk with the patient's health care provider about individual screening recommendations.
2. Individuals with a family history of cancer may qualify for screening at an earlier age.
Financial Assistance
Programs That Help Patients
Screening for Life offers free screenings for breast, cervical, colorectal, lung, and prostate cancer. Patients may qualify if they:
- Are Delaware residents
- Have health insurance that does not cover screenings
- Are between 18 and 64 years old and are not eligible for Medicaid
- Are 65 years of age or older and do not qualify for Medicare
- Meet income guidelines
- Are not eligible for health insurance

Delaware Cancer Treatment Program
The program is available to Delaware residents who:
- Were Delaware residents when diagnosed with cancer
- Were diagnosed on or after July 1, 2004
- Do not have comprehensive insurance or face out-of-pocket costs above 15% of income
- Do not receive benefits through the Medicaid Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Program
- Meet income guidelines of up to 650% of the federal poverty level
- Are not eligible for health insurance
